Fun Park
Olivia loved going to Adventureland this year. Last summer she was still a little young and she was sick if I remember correctly. This year we went with Gee Gaw Bonnie and brought along our niece Elise to help out with Olivia and to ride some of the smaller rides that Chuck and I couldn't ride. The funny thing is that her favorite ride was the balloon ride, which is so not a kiddie ride. Elliot came along, but pretty much yanked off his socks and sucked on his toes. Geez. I put together a slide show with some of our pictures.

Pumpkin Patch
Over the weekend we ventured to Center Grove Orchard for a little bit of fall fun for the family, though I was somewhat hesitant to take Elliot since he had been down and out with his ear infection. However, I think he was ready to be out of the house and doing something.
Center Grove Orchard is an apple orchard, pumpkin patch, fall fun center just north of Des Moines. I thought we would be there for an hour tops, get our pumpkin and be on our way home. Boy was I wrong. Now I remember when I was in college and going to Center Grove with the preschool class that I had a lab class with and there was the orchard, pumpkin patch and a barn, maybe two. Holy cow it's amazing what 15 years can do I tell ya. This place is a booming business these days ($7.95 admission, yes admission, for those 3 years and up). Along with the orchard and pumpkin patch there are hay rides, a petting farm, corn pool, face painting, pedal tractors, the three little pigs houses, apple launchers, mini-train rides, a bounce pillow (awesome) a super slide, educational shows/classes for the kids, a restaurant/snack shop and a "potty barn" . Oh, and there is a gift shop (of course there is). These people are rolling in the money because the place was PACKED when we arrived at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning and was even more packed when we departed with our $7 worth of pumpkins over 2 hours later.
I must say that this was one of the more clever ideas that I have had (thank you to my friend Amanda), as Olivia had a blast. The first thing she went to was the corn pool, which is literally this barn full of corn and slides for the kids to slide into the corn and play in. Now, for those of you who really know me, you know that I hesitated before letting Olivia do this because, well just because. Blame it on the OCD's. The first thing Chuck said when we walked into that stinky over sized dirty corn barn was "your'e going to let her do this." I can't remember if I just ignored him or played it off like "yeah, why wouldn't I." Anyway, my daughter is truly my daughter, because after climbing up the ladder to the slide and sliding into that stinky dirty corn, she got up with a disgusted look on her face, looked around and said "I'm done". Being the great mom that I am and not trying to allow my OCD's to flow onto her, I tried to talk her into playing in that stinky dirty corn pile some more, but she wanted nothing to do with it. Good girl. The funny thing is tonight she tried to tell me that she liked sliding in the corn. Ha.
We hit pretty much everything when we were at the orchard. Olivia loved seeing the animals, though she would not touch them (another of my OCD's that has more than likely attached itself to Olivia). The bounce pillow was awesome, but it drove me nuts that we had to take our shoes off and then walk through sand, but well worth the pain of me going nuts. Once Olivia saw the super slide she kept telling us that she wanted to go on it. Alone. Once she got to the super slide, she changed her mind and went down it with one of us. At the end of our time at the orchard Olivia helped me pick out a pumpkin and was able to pick her own mini pumpkin, which is on the front porch and she talks to every night.
I made a slide show to share some of our pictures. There are only 2 pictures of Elliot. He was just a wee bit too little to do anything, but repeatedly yank his socks off all morning.

A Little Bonding
This summer Olivia went through a rough time of having ear infection. She had it 3 times in a 6 week period in August and then nothing. Th ironic thing is that she had these ear infections during the 6 weeks she had swim lessons. Now doctors will tell you that swimming had nothing to do with her ear infections, but I find it kind of odd that once the swimming lessons ended, so did the ear infections. How is that odd?
So I was thinking that Olivia was heading into another ear infection this past week, but I was wrong, it was Elliot. He was sent home from the sitter Wednesday with what I thought was a temp and a cold. However, when I brushed my hand by his ear Friday morning and he winced and cried, I realized what I thought was probably a wee bit wrong. While I felt bad that Elliot was sick and not feeling well, I was also glad for my time alone with him. Very seldom do I get to spend time with just Elliot. I spend a lot of one on one time with Olivia going places and doing fun things with her because she is older and can do more things. Elliot just isn't at that age yet. I loved that he just hung out on my lap, that we played catch with his binky and yellow ball, and that we were just together by ourselves. It was two of the best "sick days" I have ever had.

It's Been A While
I know it has been an eternity since I have blogged and I am sure it will be another eternity until I blog again. Life is a bit hectic with an almot 3 year old and an almost 1 year old, working full time, taking care of a new house and just taking care of day to day necessities.
So, what's new? Elliot is 10 1/2 months old and has been walking (yes, walking) for about 3 weeks now. He is all over the place. He is now to the point where he prefers to walk as opposed to crawl, though he still crawls from time to time. He only has 4 teeth, but eats lots of table food (he ate his first grilled cheese sandwich about 2 weeks ago). He babbles a lot, but his only words so far have been "mama" "dada" "pop pop" and "all done" which he only said for like 2 days about 500 hundred times and now refuses to say. He loves to play with Olivia and is starting to become a little more aggressive and stand up for himself. When we went for his 9 month check-up Elliot was in th 50%ile for weight and 12%ile for height. Still short and fat. Oh well. He can always grow.
Olivia is still Olivia. She is VERY sassy (wonder where she gets that from) and went through a phase where she liked to use the words stupid and shut up, but she has gotten better. She also tends to talk back quite a bit (also wonder where that comes from) but only to me. With all of that said, I must say that she is one the most polite almost 3 year olds that I have ever met. She says please and thank you unprompted to everyone and for everything. When someone sneezes she says "bless you" and she is overall just a very caring person. Now that Elliot is getting older Olivia has taken much more of an interest in him and plays with him much more. The funny thing is she sort of plays with him like he's the dog. She will throw a toy and tell him "go get it boy". Geez.

Almost 7 months but......
I know Elliot is almost 7 months old now, but when he went for his 6 month check up 3 weeks ago he weighed 18 lbs 8 oz, so I am sure he is at least 19 pounds now. He was in the 25%ile for height and 75% for weight. I can't remember what his head circumference was, but it was small and under the 50%ile mark. Now Olivia, who is 22 months older than Elliot weighs a whopping 27 pounds. Are you serious? Only 8 pounds more?
Summer break started out pretty cruddy, with Kim, our day care provider, calling me Friday afternoon and telling me that Olivia had a temp of 103.7. To make a long story short; after 2 trips to the clinic on Friday and Sunday, and trying to figure out if Olivia had the barn yard disease again (hand, foot and mouth) a virus or strep, I finally came to the conclusion last night that she is once again a barn animal, as more spots appeared in her mouth, as well as on her feet and bottom. It was tricky to figure out this time though because her symptoms were not the same and came in a way different order than they did the first time. She has been incredibly moody and I am extremeley tired of sharing my bed with her. To top all of this off, she also has night terrors, which were out of control last night. Poor baby.
Poor Elliot has been orphaned by me since Saturday and I miss him something fierce. Fingers crossed that he does not come down with this and morph into some cross breed animal as well.
