The Last Week or Two
Olivia went through a couple week period where she no longer talked or used the words she knew. I talked to my friend Suzie who is a speech language pathologist, and she assured me that this is perfectly normal. She said that Olivia is going through some receptive language hula bula where she is hearing and taking in so much language that she has stopped talking to process everything. It didn't last long, because the kid is back to talking ALL OF THE TIME again. Words she says on a regular basis are mama, dada, pup, dog, night night, no, hi and pop. She has also resumed shaking her finger at me and telling me "no no".
Playhouse Disney has become our FAVORITE thing to watch on T.V. I would say that Clubhouse Mickey (Miska, Mooska, Mickey Mouseka) and My Friends Tiger and Pooh (think think think) are Olivia's favorite shows. I sing the theme song to Clubhouse Mickey to her daily (she bobs her head and wiggles around) and we keep our mind sharp by pointing to our temple and saying "think think think".
We took a little trip up to Green Bay about a week ago to see my brother and his family and Olivia did a marvelous job in the car on the way up (she was even facing backwards in her car seat still). The long weekend was spent watching Olivia climb stairs for the first time, repeatedly following Olivia as she walked through my brothers open floor plan house, which no baby gate would have helped with, even if we would had brought them (I kept wondering if it was a whole new experience for Olivia every time she went through those stinkin rooms), hanging out with the Mackin/Heissel clan, watching Maddie at her swim meet, and meeting up for a nice lunch with Uncle George, Aunt Winnie and the Catnach family. Olivia received her first experience in a forward facing car seat when we drove to Oshkosh with my brother and nieces, as she rode in Quinny's car seat. You should have seen her face. It was pure wonder and awe. That made up my mind, and as soon as we got back to my brothers, I switched her car seat around so she was facing forward for the ride home.
Olivia went to her first parade on St. Patricks day. The day was beautiful and the company was good. The parade on the other hand, sucked. Apparently, in order to participate in the St. Patrick's day parade in Des Moines one needs only to have an Irish last name, throw it on a sign with the word "clan" in front of it, stick the sign on the side of a truck, wear green and throw beads (that part is optional). Tada, you're in the parade. Shucks, I should have had my dad have a Clan Mackin truck rolling down the street.
Within the last 24 hours Olivia has discovered her nose holes. More accurately, her right nose hole, which she promptly sticks her index finger in and just sits there with her finger in her nose (no digging or retrieving yet). So, I have begun saying "icky no picky, yuck" which causes Olivia to smile and remain sitting with her finger in her nose. If by chance I say it when her finger isn't in her nose, she quickly puts it there for my entertainment. She has also discovered that she should pat her stomach if I say "pat pat". We also receive the sign for more whenever Olivia wants anything, which is becoming somewhat confusing, though I can usually figure out what she wants. However, it is nice to know that she does not associate the sing strictly with food. If she wants more of anything (Chuck tickling her, her binky, a toy) she signs more.

Poor Baby
After having a great Friday at Kim's, spending a little time with Grandma while I took KB to the vet after work (more on that later) a quick trip to the grocery store and some socializing with our neighbor Olivia began crying pretty much non-stop starting at 6:00 p.m. until she fell asleep around 6:30. However, before falling asleep I took her temp, as I thought she felt a little warm. Sure enough she had a temp of 100.4. Nothing a little Tylenol wouldn't cure. I checked on her throughout the evening and her fever had broke. By 10:15 though she was burning up and had a temp of 103. So, we packed up the family truckster and headed to the ER (I had no clue what to do with a temp of 103). Well, come to find out Olivia had a respiratory virus, which the doctor said would more than likley last 5-7 days. He also told us that things would get worse before they got better and that puss pockets would probably form on her tonsils and for us not to be surprised if her temp got up tp 105-106 (Umm, yikes). He gave us a prescription for Tylenol with codeine for her throat pain and said to use Motrin for her temp. So, off we went back home.
Come Saturday Olivia was acting pretty happy and her temp was pretty much back to normal. Whew, we escaped the crude. So I thought. By Sunday morning her temp was back up to 102 and she spent a good portion of the day on my lap. This morning her temp was still 102 and her food intake had decreased and her liquid intake practically diminished. I called our clinic and because Olivia had only had 1 wet diaper in an 8 hour period and had only drank about 4 oz. of liquid all day they said that if she did not have a wet diaper by 8 p.m. this evening then we needed to return to the ER for an IV drip. Olivia must have heard what was up, because her diaper was wet and she then drank 8 oz. of juice (from a bottle, but she drank it none the less).
Now here is a long story short about KB. He has had a small internal blood blister in his left ear flap for some time. The vet popped it once and said if it came back not to worry unless it got bigger. Of course it is now A LOT bigger. At the vet on Friday she drained it with a needle and it immediately filled back up with more blood. So, KB is now scheduled for minor ear surgery (and a dental cleaning) next Tuesday.
On a happy note, Olivia said Grandma today, twice.

Think Think
Fast forward to dinner, 5:45, La Hacienda, with Grandma and Pop, a good 9-10 hours later. While we were waiting for our dinner, Olivia entertained us while sitting in the high chair and being silly. I taped her on the shoulder and said "Olivia, think think" and taped the side of my head with my finger. She immediately pointed her finger and began taping the side of her head. Let me remind you that Olivia saw this once, done by a group of talking animals on the T.V., 10 hours earlier. Now, every time I say "think think" (I don't even have to tap my head anymore) she immediately taps her head with her finger. If that's not a sponge, I don't know what is.
At breakfast this morning Olivia was apparently done eating, as when I tried to feed her more she shook her head, pointed her finger and shook it and said "no no, don't". Guess she told me. Add another word to her list too (don't). She must hear that a lot. Hmm.
