Big Girl
This Halloween, Olivia was much happier. She went as a giraffe this year and was the cutest darn giraffe I have ever seen.
Olivia's new thing (and we don't know why) is to run after something yelling, "I got it, I got it, I got it". Weird kid.
Ever since Olivia could say it, she has been calling my dad and father-in-law Pop Pop. However, she could not for the life of her get out grandma. A few weeks ago Chuck's parents were here and Kathy got her to say Granny, so that is what she calls Kathy. However, she has not called my mom that. We finally figured out the other day what she calls my mom. After saying numersous times "say grandma" this is what she says every time, "Geega". I told my mom that is what my kids are going to call her forever now just because it makes me laugh.

Watch Out
While the gates were down, I noticed that Olivia was in the kitchen and was rather quiet. This is not necessarily a good thing. So I called out to her and asked her what she was doing. She came around the corner with her purple ball and said "I'm playing with my ball" (duh mom), turned around and walked away. Now, I wasn't sure if that was what I really heard because it simply amazes me what is coming out of her mouth these days. So, I looked at my mother-in-law and asked her if that was what my child had just said to me. Sure enough, Granny B heard it as well. The funny thing was that she said it in such a way that made me feel like a complete idiot for even asking such a question. Oh, it has only just begun hasn't it?

This Morning
M: "Do you want your milk"?
O: "No, put it in the bag".
M: (surprised by an entire sentence of that length) "Put it in the bag"?
O: "Yeah".

More Random Thoughts
Olivia now sings the ABC song. We can totally make out the tune and up until the letter E, but then the letter sounds turn into made up sounds, but at least it is still with the correct tune. She has also begun to count. On a daily basis we get "one, two.....FIVE". We are working on this. She did count eight, nine, ten the other day though. Don't ask what happened to the other numbers because I have no clue.
Now when Olivis decides she wants to pick up her toys (which isn't that often) she signs the pick up song. A few days ago out of the blue I hear "pick up, pick up, everybody, pick up, pick up".
When Olivia has finished eating she now tells me "done" and shoves the plate to me. If she actually ate everything on her plate she says "gone" instead.
I no longer dictate when Olivia goes to be and I no longer carry her to bed. I have found that she sleeps much better if I let her tell me when she is ready. Bedtime has moved to more around 8 instead of 7, but when she is tired she comes up and says "night night", hands me Bob, Petunia, and blanky and she walks to her bedroom. This is sad to me in a way because it just confirms that she is getting older and that she truly is an independent kid.
Unfortunately, Olivia has becoem more attached to binky and tries to get the stinkin thing whenever she can. She is only supposed to get it at naps and bedtime, but she has finagled her way into getting it more often than not lately. I hate the binky!

New Shoes
Fast forward to this past Sunday, when I decided to take Olivia to Sride Rite to get fitted for tennis shoes and a pair of dress shoes. Let me first add that Olivia usually takes a 2 1/2 to 3 hour nap on the weekends. Her nap on this particular day lasted 1 hour and 20 min. To make a LONG story short Olivia screamed bloody murder when the nice sales lady was trying to size her foot on that metal shoe thingy. She continued to scream bloody murder while the nice sales lady put on a pair of sneakers and again when the nice sales lady put on the dress shoes. Needless to say, Olivia did get her shoes, but here's the kicker. Now remember, the Pumas were a size 5, Olivia's new tennis shoes are a size 7 1/2 extra wide and her dress shoes are a size 7 extra wide. No wonder the damn Pumas wouldn't fit! With that said, both pairs of new shoes are long, but because of her foot width, they have to go with the bigger size(apparently, that's how it works with fat footed kids). The sales lady kindly said that Olivia just has "special feet".
I must also add at this point that Olivia's feet look just like her fathers. I am the first to admit that I have ugly, bony, veiny feet, that are wide. However, Chuck (and Olivia) have puffy feet. Yes, puffy feet or one could call them fluffy. That is the sole reason why this child needs an extra wide shoe. And both of the teir feet are uglier than mine!

Vikings, Cheers and Potty
Olivia now takes her sippy cup and holds it up to us and says "cheers". She does this even if we do not have something we are currently drinking out of, as well as to the dog. Hmm. She also tries to pound it with the dog as well. Hmm, again. At least he has paws she can pound I guess.
Unfortuntaely, Olivia now thinks that just sitting on her potty means that we need to make a rukus for her. It has been that everytime she goes potty she runs her little naked body around the house with her hands thrown abouve her head clapping and cheering. Now, she does that after sitting on the pot for a mere 3 seconds with nothing in the toilet. Apparently, we need to work on this.

Random Thoughts
Olivia unmistakably knows who Sponge Bob is now. When she sees a picture of him or you ask her to say Sponge Bob she says "Spun Bob".
At dinner tongiht Olivia dropped a pea, looked at me and said "where'd it go"? A couple minutes later she found it in her lap and shouted "there it is" and proceeded to eat it with a big smile on her face.
Olivia now sits on top of her Leap Frog music thingy (it sits about a foot off the floor) and pushes herself up to the end table in the living room to watch the digital photo frame.
Pee peeing in the potty (for Olivia, not Chuck or I, though it would be cool if we could train KB) occurs every night after dinner and before putting Olivia's jammies on. We now need to work on other times of the day. We have tried right when she gets up in the morning, but she isn't into it yet.
Instead of just pointing to eyes, nose and mouth when we say them, Olivia now says the words and points to the appropriate body part. However, when pointing to the appropriate body part, more specifically when pointing to my appropriate body part, she jabs my eyes out, picks my nose and pulls my lips. I even had a bloody lip from it yesterday.
I am no longer "mama", but instead "mommy, mommy, mommy" said with unnecessary urgency every time she says it.
Olivia says "Elliot". Early preparation is essential.
Apparently, Olivia has nawed the buttons off of the TV remote. Hmm, how is that odd? Let's think about that for a minute.

7 Months and 2 Days
Olivia also believes that she is such a big girl now that she can walk every where. Now, this is actually a blessing of sorts (being 7 months and 2 days pregnant) as she is getting a little heavy for me to lug around at this point. With that said, it is NOT a blessing when I want to buzz into Target real quick and she refuses to sit in the cart, but instead wants to walk. What should have taken a measley 5 minutes, ended up being a 20 minute adventure of sorts. The child meandered her way through the store (she usually runs everywhere) and then decided it would be fun to take every stinkin thing within her reach off of the shelves and place them elsewhere. Let me also add to this that Olivia has become quite the pro at dropping to the ground and going dead weight (real fun when you are 7 months and 2 days pregnant, carrying a purse on one arm and holding the convenient red Target basket with the hand that is not pulling Olivia's arm out of it's socket in an attempt to stand her back up). Oh, it gets better. She then decides (while sitting in the middle of the aisle) that it is a good time for a nap, looks at me, says "night night" and lays on her tummy. At that point in the game I had become extrememly amused and just started laughing. Olivia took advantage of this momentary lapse in judegement, stood up and took off running through the girls clothes section. Being 7months and 2 days pregnant AND it being the end of the day, I was in no shape to run after her. After at least 2 passes through that particular section of the store and pulling socks off the hooks as she ran through, I finally put the kabash on the shenanigans and carried her to the check-out with her saying "down" the entire time.
By the way I am now 7 months and 2 days pregnant (in case you didn't know). Things are going well and I am measuring two weeks ahead of schedule. I am coming up on the home stretch and am very ready to be DONE!

What A Big Girl!
Don't remember if I mentioned this in a previous blog, but Olivia is now into calling her beloved father "Chuck". He hates it and it cracks me up. Aunt Stacy was trying to teach her to call him Chuckage this evening and Olivia even said it a few times.

Oh ivia
So whenever Chuck farts or Olivia farts (I don't fart) Chuck will say "Daddy's a tooty pants" or "Livy's a tooty pants". Well, one fine Sunday morning Olivia was sitting on my lap and we were watching Clubhouse Mickey, which Olivia calls "Hot dog" (they do the hot dog dance and sing the hot dog song at the end of each episode) and she farted. I looked at her and said "Livy tooty pants. Did you fart"? Olivia looked up at me shook her head and said "No. Daddy do it". Chuck was asleep in the bedroom.....
The other day I wore a new necklace and I picked Oliva up to tell her goodbye. She touched my necklace, smiled at me and said "pretty". Add that to the ever growing list of words (now past 60).
For those of you who do not know, there is a set of children's books entitled Olivia. They are about the adventures of a pig named Olivia. A couple of months ago we saw a stuffed Olivia pig at Baby Gap and of course I bought it. Olivia loved that pig for about 3 minutes and then she hasn't seen it since, as it was thrown into her toy box. Well, the other day she happened to find Olivia the Pig in her toy box. She picked it up, looked at it, looked at me, looked back at the pig and said "Oh ivia". I was shocked. I have been trying to get her to say Livy forever with no success. Well, I jumped at the opportunity and asked her if that was her name and she proudly said "yeah". Now whenever I ask Olivia what her name is, she says "Oh ivia". In fact, this morning at the breakfast table she was singing "Oh ivia, Oh ivia, Oh ivia" repeatedly.
We are currently working on the word grandma. She has Papa down, no problem. We finally decided to just call Grandma, "G". However, the other day we switched things up a bit and decided on "Grr Ma" (we were trying to sound out grandma).

POW!
I was reading a piece of literature (needed to throw in a word that made me sound smart and sophisticated)that we received at the pediatricians last week. It said that at this age (18 months) a child should be able to say 15-20 words other than mama and dada. This prompted me to write down all the words that Olivia says. The list continues to grow as I have forgotten some and then remember them as she says them again. Anyway, we are up to about 52 words that she says on a regular basis. Add to her list of vocabulary "dang it" now as well. Hey, it's better than "shit".
We spent the weekend at Nana and Grandpa B's house with Chuck's sister and her kids this weekend. We had a wonderful weekend and Olivia did a great job. She had a few conversations with Nana B (literally nothing no one could understand but the two of them)and loved hanging out with her big cousins even though she see's them everyday at Kim's house.

18 Month Check-up
The verdict is in and Olivia is officially a peanut and obviously does not have my genes. According to our pediatrician she is in the 25%ile for weight, height and head circumference (no suprise on that one). However, she is healthy as can be and there are no concerns. Dr. Wadle was impressed with Olivia's vocabulary and knowledge of body parts and animal sounds, as well as with her outgoing personality. Olivia received 2 shots, but no more until 4years old. She handled the shots well with just a moment of crying (less than 20 seconds) and gave Nurse Brandi "the eye". However, I think the side effects of the shots are kicking in, as she is currently taking her nap and just woke up sobbing and feeling very warm.
Unfortunately, Olivia is going through one of the many phases she will face along her journey of toddlerhood. She just happens to hit anyone or anything that crosses her path. I'm not talking just a little love pat here. I'm talking open palm, full fledged slaps across the face or upside the head. Nice. Kim, as well as Dr. Wadle assured me that this is normal and all kids go though either hitting, biting or both. Now, my dad would say that she is just taking after her mom and being a bully.

She Says and DOES the Darndest Things
M: "You love Dodo"
O: "Yeah"
M: "You love Mama"
O: "No, just Dodo"
Because I am getting to the stage where climbing over the baby gates throughout the house is no longer fun or easy, I try to make things as easy as possible and climb over them as little infrequently as I can. Well, this afternoon I was trying to pick up the house and needed to take out some garbage. Usually, I just climb over the baby gate and take the garbage out the front door because one of the gates is blocking our side door. Today, I decided that Olivia would be fine with the gate down for the 3 seconds it would take me to go down 3 steps, walk 2 spaces and throw the garbage in the can. Before I hit the bottom step, I heard the door click shut behind me. No biggie. But before I could take the 2 steps to the garbage can, I then thougt "Crap, I hope that door isn't locked" (our door has one of those locks that you can open from the inside without really unlocking it, but you can't open it from the outside, as it is still technically locked). Fearing the worst, I tried to open the door and found that it was indeed locked, along with the front door and all the windows in the house. My 18 month old had locked me out. After looking for a key I thought was hidden outside, running across the street to use the neighbors phone to call my mom to bring the spare key, calling Chuck to double check that we didn't have a key outside, getting a spare key from our neighbor only to learn that it was the old key and then finally locating the darn key I knew was hidden outside but didn'nt see, I made it back into the house only to find Olivia "talking" on my cell phone adn pointing to the house phone that was ringing. This entire ordeal, whihc I say lasted anywhere from 5-10 minutes, did not phase Olivia in the least. If anything it stressed KB out more than anything. I guess I learned my lesson.
Olivia has also been sick the past few days. On Sunday, it looked as if pink eye was coming on and she ended up with a temp of 103. Monday was better, but she wasn't herself, had the poops and ended up with a temp of 101 by bedtime. Today, she slept a lot of the day and had a temp of around 100. She seems to be feeling a little better. At least good enough to pull her little stunt this afternoon.

Ow, Roar, Ahh Ahh
Olivia finds great pleasure in teasing me by calling me Dada. This of course pleases Chuck to no end. I asked her yesterday who I was and she said "Dada" and then smiled. I asked her again and this time she said "Pop Pop" (that's what she calls my dad) and smiled. When I asked her a third time I was again Dada. You can bet she knew who I was when she was crying for dinner last night though "Mama Ma". Little turkey.
Whenever Olivia sees a cat or if you ask her what a kitty says, she says "Ow". She also growls when she sees a lion or you ask her what it says and when you ask her what a monkey does she acts like she is scratching her pits and says "ahh ahh". Every single item that she sleeps with (blanky, Petunia, Debbi, Night Night Bear and Bob - I know alot) are all called Bob now.
Operation Get Rid of Binky starts tomorrow. Wish me luck...

Whenever she gets the chance Olivia hightails it to the bathroom to play with anythign she can get her hands on. As of lately, it's toilet paper.

From the Mouth of Olivia
Now, I don't know how I failed to mention this when I wrote about our trip to Minneapolis, but I did. As we were in the car heading somewhere (not sure if we were on our way up, to the game or heading home) we are all just talking and hangining in the car when all of a sudden I swear that I hear Olivia say "shit". So being the person that I am, I look over at her and say "Olivia, did you just say shit"? She looks right at me and says "shit". My response, "that's what I thought". Guess I need to watch my vocabulary a little bit more.
This morning Olivia sneezed, so I said "bless you". She looked at me and said "thank you". She did it again later in the day to. Then when I sneezed she said"bless you" to me.
Olivia can also say many other words (up, down, hat, mama, dada, dodo, milk, bath, shoes, mine, hi, bye, pup, toes, toast, night night, bob, please, thank you, no, don't and whatever else happens to pop out from time to time) and she is repeating everything (thus the word shit). She is also beginning to sing, though I have no idea what she is singing, as I have yet to really make out any words.
Over the last couple of days, we have discovered that Olivia really likes mud. She likes sitting in mud, playing in mud and eating mud.
Olivia now wears a pink baseball hat on a daily basis. However, the hat must be worn backwards (she doesn't like it the normal way) and when she gets mad at Kim she takes it off and throws it down (thata girl). I wonder where she gets this behavior from?

Go Twins Go!
Now, on to Monday's game. I was fully expecting to chase Olivia around the Metrodome for the majority of the game, which is not fun to do period, especially now that I am supposed to be taking it easy and lifting her as little as possible. Man, did this child shock the heck out of Chuck and I. She sat through the entire game (no one had to get up and walk with her once). OK, I use the word sat loosely, as she went from lap to lap and stood on Chuck most of the time. Poor Chuck didn't see hardly any of the game because he was holding Olivia most of the time (she likes to stand on my stomach, which is not a good thing at this point). She became a little fussy at one point because she didn't get a nap, but after a few minutes she was either so tired she was delirious or she got a second wind because she was happy, clapping, dancing and cheering. I also thought on the car ride back home she would completely crash. Wrong again. Olivia took a 20 minute cat nap at the very start of our trip home, then was wide awake the rest of the trip.
All in all we had a great 2 days in Minneapolis. Too bad the Twins lost. Though Joe Mauer did come in during the last inning with 2 outs, 3 runs down with a runner on 1st and knocked a 2 run hommer. Too bad the next guy flied out.

The Comfort of a Mini-Van
Olivia is better for the most part. She still has a little bit of cough, especially in the mornings, but her mood is marvelous and she is back to sleeping through the night (praise Jesus). Unfortunately, I now have what Olivia had and I can honestly say that I am miserable. To add to the mix, I had an ocular migraine yesterday morning (come to find out I had them my entire pregnancy with Olivia, but did not know what they were until I met with my neurologist a couple of weeks ago and mentioned the squiggly lines and the one time I went blind in my left eye during my last pregnancy). What they are, are visual migraines (see spots, lines etc.) without the head pain of a migraine. So, the one I had yesterday made me go blind in my left eye for about 15 minutes and then after I regained my sight I had a dull headache, which later turned into a full fledged migraine (not cool, that did NOT happen my last pregnancy). Of course, I can take Tylenol (oh, works great for a migraine I tell you) and then I suffered through. It did not help that I was coughing so much that my brain felt like it was slamming around inside my head every time I coughed, which only added to the migraine. On a brighter note, the morning sickness is doing MUCH better and I have a mini-van!
Oh, for some reason, I have ultrasound next week. I'll keep ya posted.

Mini-van Mama
On to Olivia. Unfortunately, Olivia is sick again. That pesky respiratory virus she had a couple months ago (remember when we ended up at the ER) has returned. Only this time she can hardly stand the pain of her throat. She has had a temp of 102 since Monday late afternoon and it has continued into today. We went to the doctor and her ears are great, but her throat is incredibly red and raw. She cries and cries, can't eat because of the pain and was so afraid to drink her milk this morning that she was holding her sippy in front of her mouth sobbing and literally shaking. Poor pumpkin. She cried in her sleep throughout the night as well. Hopefully, this will pass, but until then it's going to be rough for her.

15 Month Check-Up
All is well and Olivia is a healthy little runt. She weighs 22 lbs, is 30 inches long and continues to have a small head. Weight is just under the 50%ile, height is around the 40%ile and head circumference, well, the 20%ile. It no longer bothers me that she has a Beetlejuice head, as I feel that she is the cutest darn Beetlejuice known to man, though Michael Keaton was pretty cute too. It did dawn on me that I do know where Olivia gets her little head and of course it is from me. When I buy baseball hats I can literally wear kid sizes and adult ones are always too big. Go figure.
For some reason I was unaware (don't ask me why, pregnancy brian again) that Olivia would receive not one, not two, but three shots today. She didn't even blink an eye with the first shot, but all hell broke loose on the second and third. The kid cried like you wouldn't believe. Of course, she gave Brandi (her nurse) "the eye" and refused to look at her or wave bye when we were leaving. She WILL be a grudge holder or a harborer of feelings (hmm, another trait of her mom's).
When I ask Olivia where her nose is now, she promptly touches her nose (maybe that is because she picks it to make me say "icy no picky"). She also touches her eye when I ask where her eye is (maybe that is because she tries to gouge mine out on a dialy basis) and knows what her toe toes are (maybe because she sucks the stupid things to tick me off). We are working on mouth and ear. She gets bored rather quickly when I repeatedly ask her to do things that are not on her agenda.
Now, a testimonial as to how smart Olivia really is. On Playhouse Disney there are two monkeys, Ooh and Aah who do little skits, sing and introduce the shows that will be coming on (if you are not familiar with Playhouse Disney, then I highly suggest you spend some quality time watching it on a daily basis). Well, at the end of Playhouse Disney time Ooh and Aah sing a goodbye song that goes "Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh, Aah Aah, Bye Bye, Ooh Ooh, Aah Aah, Bye Bye, Bye Bye". So, the other day Olivia and I are heading out and about in the pouring down rain after purchasing our FAVORITE new diaper bag (long story, ask later) and we are listening to the new Playhouse Disney CD I bought for us to listen to in the car (she absolutely loves it, I swear). Anyway, we are driving along and Ooh and Aah come on (they are the MC's for the CD) and they start singing a little bit of a different version (minus the bye bye part) but Olivia immediately starts saying "bye bye" every few seconds and waving. At first I thought maybe she was just saying bye bye, because she does say it out of the blue once in a while, but it was totally for the song. She did it again on the way home from the doctor today. Then, I began singing it in the living room after dinner and Olivia filled in with the "bye bye" part. Smart (another trait of her mom's).
Oh, and because I have not talked about poop in a really long time, I would like to share that Olivia no longer has nugget issues and poops with the best of them now. She has truly earned her name of Poopy Pants. Kim LOVES it!

I am NOT a Slacker!
Olivia now refers to EVERY dog she sees as Do Do. She will see a dog, say Do Do and then pant like a dog. Apparently, she also believes that the monkeys at the zoo are Do Do's as she reacted the exact same way when she saw them last weekend.
Speaking of the zoo, Olivia had her first trip to the zoo Easter weekend and the reaction was less than enthusiatic. It appeared like she really had no opinion one way or another. We took her to the petting zoo and I of course told Chuck she was not allowed to touch any of the animals (another OCD of mine). It really didn't matter that I said that because she could have cared less about them. Chuck did have her touch a goat and there was no reaction.
Olivia has started eating all people food (I don't know what else to call it) as of the last week or two. It is so nice making one dinner for all of us. She eats EVERYTHING. We went to our neighborhood Italian joint about a week ago and the child ate fried raviolli, salad with creamy garlic dressing, salad with thousand island dressing, chicken amaggio, pepper steak, onions, tomatoes, peppers, bread, french fries and chicken strips. She loved every single bite of it! She will try, and usually eat anything; even swiss chesse the other day. However, she quickly came to her senses and realized that this was the most repulsive cheese that has ever touched her lips. and spit it out by the 2nd bite. Smart girl.
We are currently going through a stage of "changing diapers and clothes is the funniest thing ever". Funny to Olivia, as she Kung Fu Baby grips the changing table rail and rolls herslf over so we can't get her changed. She laughs the entire time until I get "serious" and hold her down until she realizes I am done playing, then the tears come until I find the baby Desitin for her to play with until we are finished. It's a viscious cycle I tell you.
One of Olivia's new favorite things to do is go behind the speakers and entertainment center to play with and try to unplug cords. I count to three and if she isn't out (and she never is) then I go get her and time out begins. Well, this is how the scene played out last night.
Me: One....(in my stern voice)
Olivia: TWO (shouting and throwing her fist up in the air) Eeee (that means three). And a BIG
ole smile on her face.
This happened every time I begancounting. Of course I laughed and Chuck gave me the eye and said I wasn't helping matters, but darn it, it was funny!
No new words as of lately and our sign language signs are starting to become mixed up at times. Sometimes we get "think think think" for more or more for eat. I know what she wants though.
Pictures will follow soon.

The Last Week or Two
Olivia went through a couple week period where she no longer talked or used the words she knew. I talked to my friend Suzie who is a speech language pathologist, and she assured me that this is perfectly normal. She said that Olivia is going through some receptive language hula bula where she is hearing and taking in so much language that she has stopped talking to process everything. It didn't last long, because the kid is back to talking ALL OF THE TIME again. Words she says on a regular basis are mama, dada, pup, dog, night night, no, hi and pop. She has also resumed shaking her finger at me and telling me "no no".
Playhouse Disney has become our FAVORITE thing to watch on T.V. I would say that Clubhouse Mickey (Miska, Mooska, Mickey Mouseka) and My Friends Tiger and Pooh (think think think) are Olivia's favorite shows. I sing the theme song to Clubhouse Mickey to her daily (she bobs her head and wiggles around) and we keep our mind sharp by pointing to our temple and saying "think think think".
We took a little trip up to Green Bay about a week ago to see my brother and his family and Olivia did a marvelous job in the car on the way up (she was even facing backwards in her car seat still). The long weekend was spent watching Olivia climb stairs for the first time, repeatedly following Olivia as she walked through my brothers open floor plan house, which no baby gate would have helped with, even if we would had brought them (I kept wondering if it was a whole new experience for Olivia every time she went through those stinkin rooms), hanging out with the Mackin/Heissel clan, watching Maddie at her swim meet, and meeting up for a nice lunch with Uncle George, Aunt Winnie and the Catnach family. Olivia received her first experience in a forward facing car seat when we drove to Oshkosh with my brother and nieces, as she rode in Quinny's car seat. You should have seen her face. It was pure wonder and awe. That made up my mind, and as soon as we got back to my brothers, I switched her car seat around so she was facing forward for the ride home.
Olivia went to her first parade on St. Patricks day. The day was beautiful and the company was good. The parade on the other hand, sucked. Apparently, in order to participate in the St. Patrick's day parade in Des Moines one needs only to have an Irish last name, throw it on a sign with the word "clan" in front of it, stick the sign on the side of a truck, wear green and throw beads (that part is optional). Tada, you're in the parade. Shucks, I should have had my dad have a Clan Mackin truck rolling down the street.
Within the last 24 hours Olivia has discovered her nose holes. More accurately, her right nose hole, which she promptly sticks her index finger in and just sits there with her finger in her nose (no digging or retrieving yet). So, I have begun saying "icky no picky, yuck" which causes Olivia to smile and remain sitting with her finger in her nose. If by chance I say it when her finger isn't in her nose, she quickly puts it there for my entertainment. She has also discovered that she should pat her stomach if I say "pat pat". We also receive the sign for more whenever Olivia wants anything, which is becoming somewhat confusing, though I can usually figure out what she wants. However, it is nice to know that she does not associate the sing strictly with food. If she wants more of anything (Chuck tickling her, her binky, a toy) she signs more.

Poor Baby
After having a great Friday at Kim's, spending a little time with Grandma while I took KB to the vet after work (more on that later) a quick trip to the grocery store and some socializing with our neighbor Olivia began crying pretty much non-stop starting at 6:00 p.m. until she fell asleep around 6:30. However, before falling asleep I took her temp, as I thought she felt a little warm. Sure enough she had a temp of 100.4. Nothing a little Tylenol wouldn't cure. I checked on her throughout the evening and her fever had broke. By 10:15 though she was burning up and had a temp of 103. So, we packed up the family truckster and headed to the ER (I had no clue what to do with a temp of 103). Well, come to find out Olivia had a respiratory virus, which the doctor said would more than likley last 5-7 days. He also told us that things would get worse before they got better and that puss pockets would probably form on her tonsils and for us not to be surprised if her temp got up tp 105-106 (Umm, yikes). He gave us a prescription for Tylenol with codeine for her throat pain and said to use Motrin for her temp. So, off we went back home.
Come Saturday Olivia was acting pretty happy and her temp was pretty much back to normal. Whew, we escaped the crude. So I thought. By Sunday morning her temp was back up to 102 and she spent a good portion of the day on my lap. This morning her temp was still 102 and her food intake had decreased and her liquid intake practically diminished. I called our clinic and because Olivia had only had 1 wet diaper in an 8 hour period and had only drank about 4 oz. of liquid all day they said that if she did not have a wet diaper by 8 p.m. this evening then we needed to return to the ER for an IV drip. Olivia must have heard what was up, because her diaper was wet and she then drank 8 oz. of juice (from a bottle, but she drank it none the less).
Now here is a long story short about KB. He has had a small internal blood blister in his left ear flap for some time. The vet popped it once and said if it came back not to worry unless it got bigger. Of course it is now A LOT bigger. At the vet on Friday she drained it with a needle and it immediately filled back up with more blood. So, KB is now scheduled for minor ear surgery (and a dental cleaning) next Tuesday.
On a happy note, Olivia said Grandma today, twice.

Think Think
Fast forward to dinner, 5:45, La Hacienda, with Grandma and Pop, a good 9-10 hours later. While we were waiting for our dinner, Olivia entertained us while sitting in the high chair and being silly. I taped her on the shoulder and said "Olivia, think think" and taped the side of my head with my finger. She immediately pointed her finger and began taping the side of her head. Let me remind you that Olivia saw this once, done by a group of talking animals on the T.V., 10 hours earlier. Now, every time I say "think think" (I don't even have to tap my head anymore) she immediately taps her head with her finger. If that's not a sponge, I don't know what is.
At breakfast this morning Olivia was apparently done eating, as when I tried to feed her more she shook her head, pointed her finger and shook it and said "no no, don't". Guess she told me. Add another word to her list too (don't). She must hear that a lot. Hmm.

Oh My Teeth!
Let's see, Olivia can now say mama, daddy, pup (or puppy), Do Do, Pop (my dad's name), hi, bye, up, down, turtle, no no, Bob (her stuffed bear that she sleeps with), love you, night night, and num num (that's what we call food). Pretty impressive for a 13 month old who should be averaging 2-3 words at this time. Olivia also knows the sign for more in sign language, as well as the sign for puppy. When I ask her what a puppy does she makes a panting sound (that's the sign). I am also trying to teach her what a lion sounds like and she will roar back to me when I roar. However, it has dawned on me that she has no clue what a lion is, since she may have seen a picture of one once. Hmm.
She is now eating Kim's wooden end tables. I don't know about that kid.

What's New?
By the grace of God, Chuck and I survived Olivia getting in all 4 of her molars. Actually, it was just by chance that I even found out she had gotten them in. She is now up to 12 teeth.
As of yesterday, Olivia had started this little grunt/laugh sound, which she starts out of the blue and does repeatedly.
This morning I walked in Olivia's room and found that she had pulled her arm out of her pajamas and it was stuck down the front of her body (between her onesis and the pjs). She couldn't get her arm back into the arm hole and she was not happy about it.
She is still eating her bed.

Yuck!
Whenever Olivia does something naughty I now shake my finger at her and say "naughty naughty". Well, Olivia must get a kick out of this because now she randomly shakes her finger at me and says "no no". What a kid.
I have been told that I need to add more to the blog about Chuck and I. However, my take on this is that people like to her about the funny things Olivia does far more than hearing about us. With that said I will devote an upcoming post to something other than Olivia. To make Chuck feel better, I will tell you that he took another of those sleeping pills last night and was a nut case again. Mumbling something about his lungs being the reason he was lying on his stomach, but propped up on his elbows with his head buried in the pillow and then telling me that I just won;t understand. No crap I don't undestand. You're a nutball.

Oh To Cuddle Again
Olivia is officially, officially walking everywhere. I have noticed that she now walks far more than she crawls. Falling doesn't phase her, except when she fell head first into KB's toy basket last night. Oops.
I have caught Olivia on multiple occassions hugging her bear Bobby and her pink blankie that Aunt Katie made her that she sleeps with every night. When she is getting tired she will grab her blanket, put it on the floor and lay her head on it. It is very heart warming and cute. At least she cuddles something.
Last night was our first night without a bedtime bottle. I did give her a sippy cup of warm milk, which she downed in about 2 seconds flat (not really, but you get the gist). So, I think I can say that the days of the bottle are officially over. Sigh again.

Oh The Likeness
Finally, while watching the Super Bowl last night at Grandma and Pop Pop's house, Olivia received her first battle wound in the middle/right of her forehead (her left). Apparently, she feel and knocked her head on a toy that was at her feet. Look closely and you can see the purple bruise in the middle of her forehead (it looks like a purple line). This I am told, is the first of many.

One Year Pics

I wound up with an unexpected day off today (Kim, Olivia's sitter, is a new Grandma to Cayleb and Cayden as of 1:02 p.m. this afternoon) and since neither of us were really "sick" I thought it would be a great time to get Olivia's 1 year pictures taken. It was nice to avoid the weekend rush and Olivia was AWESOME! Much better than her 9 month pics. She hammed it up with her goofy smile a couple of times. She did get a little restless towards the end and just wanted to walk and crawl. Check out her humungo teeth. Funny. Remember the slide show pics aren't cropped or anything so they don't look exactly like the ones we ordered. Enjoy!

One Year Check-Up
Anyway, Olivia is just about the 50%ile for height (28 inches something) and weight (21 lbs). However, she has reverted back to having a Beetlejuice head, and is in the 25%ile for head circumference. I just don't understand. Her doctor said that she should not be drinking from a bottle anymore (for sure not by 15 months). Olivia still takes 4 bottles a day, so Kim, being the great day car provider that she is, started weaning her off of the mid morning one today. Hopefully, we can wean a bottle a week, so in about 4 weeks we should be good. With that said, Olivia's doctor did say that the bedtime bottle is the hardest to get rid of, so it may be longer than 4 weeks. We also need to give her apple/prune juice on a daily basis, as the no popping issue has returned. Other than that all is well and we have a happy, healthy, small headed non-pooper.
Olivia took 15 steps last night.

Oh What A Night . . .
OK, so it was actually late January, 2009 and it wasn't that special, but Icouldn't resist the song lyric.
Anyway, flashback to Thursday morning. We left for Kim's looking and feeling fine. The day went well and I picked the O up at about 4:45. She had a tiny bit of a runny nose. Nothing major. Bedtime was 8:00 and I noticed that Olivia wasn't sleeping well. She cried out a lot and there was some moaning. By 9:30, she was full fledged sobbing. When I went in to put her back to bed and turn her fishies on I couldn't resist picking her up, as she was breathing icky and there was snot EVERYWHERE!
Let me just stop and say that odd and mysterious things happen when Olivia is sick in the middle of the night. It was now close to 12:30 and for the past 3 hours Olivia had remained wide awake and decided to be the comic relief of the night. She would cry and two minutes later would stop, look at Chuck, smile, wave and say "hi" in her sing song voice. She also decided that this was the perfect time to laugh, play and shove binky into my mouth. At this point I was ready to pass out from pure exhaustion (remember I go to bed most nights by 8 or 8:30). Out of the blue Olivia looks up at me and whispers "pup". I told her pup was sleeping with Daddy, just like we needed to do. She again looked at me and whispered "pup". A little more less friendly this time I told her that Do Do was sleeping and she needed to go night night. She sort of cocked her head and I again said Do Do is sleeping. For some reason I decided to ask Olivia if she could say Do Do. Sure enough she looked at me and said it. Not just once, but multiple times. I of course wasn't sure if she knew what Do Do meant, but the next morning when he came into the dining room to wait for Olivia's dropped food she said "Do Do". What a smart kid. She now says it all of the time. The rest of the night was torture, as she was up most of the night and I received about 3-4 hours of sleep. However, Olivia always makes it worth it by suprising me with a new word (last time the word was pup. Hmm, always the dog).
So, we had to purchase a second baby gate, as the laundry basket we were using to block Olivia into the far end of the living room (umm, how far can one go in my living room) lost its power of corraling her and she now simply climbs over it, only to dive bomb face first into the floor on the other side (doesn't even phase her). We put the gate up this evening and she looked at it with an "oh s***" expression on her face. The poor dog is so stinkin confused its not even funny. Not only is Olivia locked in, so is KB.
Olivia has a cuddly (is that spelled correct) soft bear that I so cleverly named Bob, Bobby, whatever. Olivia now says "Bob" on a regular basis.
We are up to 6 steps independently when walking. True walking should begin within the week. Stay tuned.

What A Day.......
The fun continued once she got home for the evening (you know it is bad when I tell Chuck to make me a drink and it isn't even 5:30 yet). As she was lying on the changing table I decided to take a peek in her mouth and low and behold there were teeth #7 and #8 staring back at me. What the heck! Those little boogers were NOT there this morning (well, at least I don't think they were, I didn't really look, but I know they weren't there last night because I brushed her teeth at bed time). No wonder she was a pain in the butt all day. OK, I am sure it wasn't just the teeth, but I am sure they didn't help matters either. I should have known they were coming, because every gosh darn time Olivia sees Grandma and Grandpa B she ends up with a tooth within the next day or two. Hmm, how is that odd. Let's think about that for a minute.
Other than being crabby and in pain (not just Olivia) we managed to have a great birthday evening. Grandma and Pop Pop came over for dinner and Olivia opened 2 more gifts (mmm, just what she needs, more stuff) from Chuck and I. She even got a little piece of cake, which she smeared all over the kitchen table and her face. Olivia sucked down her bottle and was in bed and asleep by 8:30. Ahh, peace and quiet.
1 year, can you believe it?

PARTY PARTY PARTY!
![]() |
| Make a Smilebox slideshow |
As most of you who read this blog alreay know (and were a part of) Olivia had her 1st birthday party yesterday. It was a long day and Olivia was WAY over-stimulated, but we all had a great time. Olivia seemed to enjoy her cake (once she realized what to do with it) and I would like to say had fun playing with her new toys, but I think she enjoyed the paper and boxes more!
Just an update other than a 1st birthday party. Kim has now taught Olivia to say mine, though it sounds more like my. Olivia also says hi in a sing song voice every time she see's someone or something of interest. She also said bye-bye when my mom took what remained of her cake off of her high chair tray yesterday. Mom and mama are said on a regular basis (every stinkin time she wants something) as is pup (still whispered). She gets closer to walking independently each day, but is still lazy and would rather crawl. After tappering off some, the biting has returned and is still strongly disliked by the recipient (namely me).

Terrible Two's Already?
Yes, that's right blog followers, Olivia has mastered the tanrum. This started the other night when I told her that we were "all done" looking out the window. Looking out the window would not be such a bad thing if it didn't require Olivia climbing up me and then standing on my chest. After a few minutes this gets rather uncomfortable. The minute I said "all done" and drug her down from the back of the couch she went into tanrum mode. I am talking throw your head back, arch your back and cry/scream uncontrollably. Thinking that I would change my mind after her performance she proceeded to climb back up me and was stopped with me saying "no". Enter another arched back and scream. Only this time, she balled her hands up and threw them down to her side. After about 2 minutes of this, I sat her on the floor where the tantrum continued with balled up fists in front of her chest. I looked at her and asked her if she wanted to come to me and she promptly shook her head no and crawled away. She stopped screaming momentarily to smile at me and giggle, but immediately started the tantrum over. I again asked her if she wanted to come to me and she shook her head no and crawled further away, turned to me and smiled and then began screaming again. I finally grew tired of this and we went to eat dinner. When I mentioned this to our favorite day car provider Kim, she looked at me like I was crazy and said that she had "never" tantrumed at her house before. Lucky Kim got a good ole tantrum yesterday when she told Olivia no. This morning we managed to get 2 tantrums before leaving the house and that was only in an hour time frame. Ahh, how nice.
On a happy note, yesterday when I sat Olivia on my lap to put her socks and sock protectors on(like a pocket protector only better and for her feet) I thought that she had lifted her foot up for me to put them on, but she had never done that before so I didn't think much of it. However, this morning I sat her on my lap, grabbed her socks and said "let's put your sockies on" and she lifted her right foot up for me. What a smart cookie. She only lifts her right foot though. She makes me work for the left one.

My Oh My
So, what's new?
The Vikes are in the playoffs and have their first playoff game tomorrow afternoon. Olivia will have a couple wardrob changes and will be sporting both her Vikings cheerleading outfit that our good friend Carrie gave her, and her Adrian Peterson jersey that my cousin Chad bought her for Christmas. Of course, pictures will be taken and posted. It is very ironic that when Carrie gave us the cheerleading uniform at my baby shower we made the comment that it would be perfect for when the Vikings made it to the playoffs and won the Super Bowl the following year. Who'da thunk it? Oh, Olivia is also starting to sport the Jared Allen (#69 defensive end) mullet. Go Vikes!
OK, onto other things besides the Vikings.
Olivia is a teething fool, though she hasn't gotten a new tooth in since Christmas night. Hmm. However, she drools like crazy and is constantly knawing on things. Or better yet, biting things, more specifically, me. I receive bites on the shoulder and the arm mostly, but have received a few to the face and one on the neck. Not cool. Nothing seems to deter her from biting and most of the time when she is firmly told "no biting" she smiles and bites again.
Olivia's vocabulary is still somewhat limited. She continues to say mama, dada, pup (though she now whispers it everytime she says it, weird kid) and pop pop (that is what she calls my dad). However, we added a new word to our vocabulary as of yesterday. Nnnn no. She says this with her big Olivia smile on her face and shaking her head no at the same time. And yes, it really is nnnn no. However, whenever Olivia is told no, she throws herself back and begins screaming. Can the terrible two's start even before the age of one? Kim is trying to teach her to say mine as well. Great. No and mine, two words I don't want to hear.
Walking is coming slowly, but surely. Olivia stands independently without holding onto anything a lot of the time now and even took four steps towards KB without holding onto anything, but other than that she still likes to drop to the floor and speed crawl to things or cruise around the couch etc. Part of her problem is she curls her toes under and literally walks on her toe knuckles (have I ever told you Olivia is just like me). She does walk with the push toy she has, which is pretty funny because she starts pushing and that thing takes off. It's almost like she is running behind it to catch up.
Just over the last couple of days Olivia has started opening her mouth, humming and hitting her mouth with an open palm. You know, the thing that sounds like an Indian chant thingy. Oh, you know what I am talking about.
Eating is sort of a pain in the butt. Olivia is going through a weird stage where she will put food in her mouth and then immediately take it out and examine it for a while, then put it back in and play with it for a while longer in her mouth. This causes every stinkin meal time to take FOREVER. She loves grilled cheese sandwiches, but I have decided that she can't eat this for every meal. She will not eat any vegetables unless it is baby food vegetables and it is hard to get meats into her. We have no problem getting our dairy, grains or fruits in for the day, its just those darn meats and veggies. I have decided that baby veggies are better than no veggies and she gets two containers of Stage 2 baby food a day. As for the meat, I took the turkey bites she refused to eat and put them in her green beans the other day and she ate them no problem. Well, until the last bite when she decided to gag. Go figure.
