Think Think

I was enjoying my early Sunday morning ritual of watching reruns of Beverly Hills 90210 (the Soap channel from 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. every Sunday for those who need their fix and are up at the butt crack of dawn on a weekend) with Olivia yesterday, when it dawned on me that this child is now a sponge. I thought this because she sat on my lap for well over an hour (she never sits with me that long any more) mesmerized by the shenanigans of Dylan, Steve, Donna and Kelly. Then it really dawned on me that we really need to start paying attention to what we watch. So, I changed it to the Disney channel where the ever entertaining Clubhouse Mickey was showing Pooh and Friends (have I ever mentioned that I don't like Pooh). I cringed and fought the urge to change the channel, but saw that Olivia was now enthralled with Pooh and his Super Sleuth friends (they were trying to solve a mystery). At one point they broke into song and started saying "think think" and would tap the side of their heads with their finger. After a while Olivia lost all interest and stopped watching T.V. all together. So, I flipped it back to 90210, all the while making sure Olivia was busy playing.

Fast forward to dinner, 5:45, La Hacienda, with Grandma and Pop, a good 9-10 hours later. While we were waiting for our dinner, Olivia entertained us while sitting in the high chair and being silly. I taped her on the shoulder and said "Olivia, think think" and taped the side of my head with my finger. She immediately pointed her finger and began taping the side of her head. Let me remind you that Olivia saw this once, done by a group of talking animals on the T.V., 10 hours earlier. Now, every time I say "think think" (I don't even have to tap my head anymore) she immediately taps her head with her finger. If that's not a sponge, I don't know what is.

At breakfast this morning Olivia was apparently done eating, as when I tried to feed her more she shook her head, pointed her finger and shook it and said "no no, don't". Guess she told me. Add another word to her list too (don't). She must hear that a lot. Hmm.
