New Shoes

A few weeks ago, I decided that Olivia needed to wear the new Puma sneakers I had bought for her. In the spring she was wearing a size 4 Puma, so I bought a size 5 for late summer/early fall. Now, if you put the sole of the shoe up to the bottom of her foot, this shoe is the correct size and theoretically should fit. So, after a good 30 seconds of me trying to shove/force her shoe on, without much success I might add, and with Chuck standing next to me saying "it's not going to fit" and Olivia sitting on her big girl bed saying "owie, owie, owie" I finally gave up and put on her crocs.

Fast forward to this past Sunday, when I decided to take Olivia to Sride Rite to get fitted for tennis shoes and a pair of dress shoes. Let me first add that Olivia usually takes a 2 1/2 to 3 hour nap on the weekends. Her nap on this particular day lasted 1 hour and 20 min. To make a LONG story short Olivia screamed bloody murder when the nice sales lady was trying to size her foot on that metal shoe thingy. She continued to scream bloody murder while the nice sales lady put on a pair of sneakers and again when the nice sales lady put on the dress shoes. Needless to say, Olivia did get her shoes, but here's the kicker. Now remember, the Pumas were a size 5, Olivia's new tennis shoes are a size 7 1/2 extra wide and her dress shoes are a size 7 extra wide. No wonder the damn Pumas wouldn't fit! With that said, both pairs of new shoes are long, but because of her foot width, they have to go with the bigger size(apparently, that's how it works with fat footed kids). The sales lady kindly said that Olivia just has "special feet".

I must also add at this point that Olivia's feet look just like her fathers. I am the first to admit that I have ugly, bony, veiny feet, that are wide. However, Chuck (and Olivia) have puffy feet. Yes, puffy feet or one could call them fluffy. That is the sole reason why this child needs an extra wide shoe. And both of the teir feet are uglier than mine!
